HYPNOSIS & HYPNOTHERAPY

What Is Hypnosis?

"Discover the Power of Hypnosis: Unlock Your Mind's Potential"

Have you ever found yourself lost in thought while driving, only to realize you've reached your destination without consciously remembering the journey? Or perhaps you've drifted off during a meeting, only to snap back to attention without knowing where your mind wandered? Or being absorbed in a great book and hours have drifted by? Or so into a movie you laugh, cry, get shocked or scared?

These moments are more than just daydreaming – they're examples of your mind slipping into a natural state known as hypnosis. Hypnosis is a state of heightened awareness of the unconscious processes, where your mind becomes receptive to suggestions and open to new possibilities.

Think of it as a state of none-thinking-awareness, where you can tap into all your resources and experiences without conscious effort. And the best part? All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, its 100% natural. By following simple instructions, you can guide yourself or be guided into this state of deep relaxation and heightened focus.

Despite common misconceptions, hypnosis is a natural and familiar state to most. It's not about losing control or falling asleep; it's about harnessing the power of your subconscious mind to make positive changes in your life.

Ready to experience the transformative potential of hypnosis for yourself? Download our free guide to Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy, and discover just how easy and harmless hypnosis can be. Remember, you'll still have thoughts, and you'll still be fully aware of your surroundings – because hypnosis is not sleep, it's a gateway to unlocking your mind's full potential.

Hypnosis And The Unconscious Mind:

Simplifying Hypnosis and the Unconscious Processes

Let's keep things simple, because simplicity resonates with the mind. Complexity may appeal to the ego, but that's not what we're about here.

So, what does your unconscious actually do?

Its primary role is to ensure your safety and maintain the mind-body connection. Your unconscious will always prioritise your well-being and prevent you from engaging in anything views as risky.

Think of your unconscious as a storage facility for all your experiences. It then interprets the information stored and feeds everything back on and into itself.

Your unconscious communicates to conscious mind through metaphors, stories, images, emotions and feelings. It recognizes patterns and operates like a series of learned responses. Remember Pavlov's dogs? The salivating at the sound of a bell is a classic example of a learned response, irrespective of conscious memory.

In your initial session, we will look deeper into your unconscious processes. This understanding will help you foster a healthier relationship with yourself and dispel the notion of self-sabotage. Get ready to embark on a journey toward self-discovery and empowerment.

Hypnosis True Or False:

Dispelling Hypnotherapy Misconceptions

Let's address some common misconceptions about hypnotherapy:

Firstly, the idea that I could hypnotise someone to do things against their will is simply untrue. Hypnosis relies on the cooperation and willingness of the individual. So, no, I can't make your spouse cluck like a chicken or compel your child to love vegetables unless they genuinely want to, no matter how much we might wish for it.

If mind control through hypnosis were possible, I am sure past world leaders would have used it to control nations and rule the world! Fortunately, hypnosis doesn't grant that level of control.

Similarly, hypnosis isn't a tool for law enforcement to ensure compliance with speed limits or promote good behavior. Your unconscious mind is fiercely protective of your deepest secrets, so you won't be divulging anything you're not comfortable with.

In reality, the notion of "mind control hypnosis" is largely a myth. If you're interested in learning more about stage hypnosis and how it differs from therapeutic hypnotherapy, I invite you to reach out and I can send you information about this

My Approach To Hypnosis:

Understanding Unconscious Strategies

My approach to therapy often resembles that of a detective. Behind every problem lies a strategy—an unconscious pattern of thoughts or behaviors that now produces a particular problem or issue. My role is to help you uncover and understand this strategy, guiding you through the process with an open mind and willingness to explore.

The unconscious mind operates on a simple stimulus-response mechanism. Something happens internally, triggering a response. When you reach a point of frustration with recurring responses that no longer serve you, it's time to update your unconscious programming.

While these responses may have been helpful in the past, they are now outdated and are now working against you.

You no longer need or want them, and it's within your power to change them at the unconscious level. This is where the true issue lies, and where hypnosis, NLP, and Mind Training can help.

In your first session with me, you'll experience first hand how simple it can be to understand and change these unconscious patterns.

Hypnosis Leads To Change:

What Sparks Unconscious Change?

Many clients initially worry that discussing their issues might lead to upsetting emotions. However, they are pleasantly surprised to find that we do not delve into the past or the details of the problem because it doesn't always allow change to happen quickly. In fact, excessive discussion can sometimes make the issue or problem worse if working with inexperienced therapists.

Each time we revisit a problem by discussing it, we re-activate the same neurological pathways that were initially formed when the initial problem's were created. This repetition can reinforce the problem rather than help resolve it.

This is where the quote by Norman Doidge comes into play: "Neurons that fire together, wire together." To facilitate real change, we need to avoid re-activating those problematic pathways.

Therefore, my approach is not to dwell on the details or delve deeply into the past. If you feel the need to analyze or understand your issues consciously, I recommend seeking traditional talk therapy and the guidance of a counselor or psychologist, as they are better equipped for that type of work.

Instead, let's focus on doing things differently. By adopting new behaviors, reactions, and feelings, we can achieve different results. While it may sound overly simplistic, it's a more effective approach than simply talking about the problem.

If you're curious and ready to change those old patterns, I invite you to make contact.

This Is What Hypnosis Is NOT:

Let's set the record straight on what hypnotherapy is not:

  • Real hypnotherapy doesn't involve the theatrics of pocket watches or spirals, nor do people fall over theatrically.
  • You won't be divulging your darkest secrets to me during a session, as your unconscious mind's primary job is to protect you.
  • Hypnotherapy isn't something done "on" a person; it's a collaborative process done with the person's active participation.
  • If you're not willing to enter hypnosis, our session won't progress.
  • Contrary to common misconceptions, during hypnotherapy sessions, you won't be lying down, becoming unconscious, or falling asleep. And if you do happen to drift off, don't worry—I'll notice and gently wake you up.

These points will become much clearer during your first session with me. Let's demystify hypnotherapy together.

Why Hypnosis works:

Why does hypnosis and working with the unconscious work?

Your unconscious mind's job is to keep you safe. It does this by using the best methods it knows, even if they're not the best for you anymore. Sometimes it sees things as dangerous that aren't actually dangerous now. You might know this logically, but your unconscious still acts on old habits and patterns. Thinking or reasoning won't change this because your unconscious works much faster than your conscious mind. So, your unconscious always wins.

If you want things to change, you need to change how your unconscious works.

There are many ways to help your unconscious learn new things and work differently.

Think back to when you first learned to drive... Maybe you learned to drive a stick shift car. At first, it was hard. You had to think about every step: shifting gears, using the clutch, and so on. Or maybe you learned to drive an automatic. Even then, you had to think about each step: turning the key, shifting gears, and more. But with practice, driving became automatic. You didn't have to think about every little thing anymore.

That's how your unconscious works. When something becomes familiar to it, it becomes natural and easy even if it doesn't serve you well in your life today, right now. It is a learnt defence mechanism that is now working against you and your conscious mind is completely unaware of what is going on in the background.
